Bangalore’s 2 Day Wine Festival

If you’re tired of the same routine over the weekend, you will definitely be looking forward to something different that is exciting and fun.

Wine, you ask? Well, we have not yet had any festivals around Craft Beer in Bangalore so far and with current government regulations prohibiting kegging, having such a festival is a distant thought. It is wonderful to see the Wine community organizing several such events across the country. One can only hope that someday soon Craft Beer will follow suite.

BrainTrustDF, a consulting company conceptualized and have organized a two day wine and cheese festival at UB City in partnership with brands such as Grover Zampa, Frateli Vineyards, Sula Vineyards, Four Seasons, Big Banyan, Chandon, Enoteca, Kerry Gold Cheese, Himalayan Products, Go Cheese, Breadworks, Fava & so on. The festival takes place on July 9th and 10th from 11am to 11pm.

Event and Ticket Details are at the bottom of this post.

You get to sample wine and cheese, attend workshops on both, take part in contests, grape stomping and enjoy some great live music. If you are new to wine, then this is an ideal opportunity to sample different wines and cheeses and ask lots of questions. There is plenty of literature available.

Everyone gets a Rs. 1000 voucher for O2 Spa, located at VR Mall, Whitefield.

Stop by the Enoteca booth to sample their collection and interact with their wine experts. Enoteca conducts regular wine training workshops and Gaurav from Enoteca is conducting a few wine appreciation sessions at the fest.

My Experience

I was able to attend the festival on July 9th and had an enjoyable experience. Being partial to white wines particularly to Sauvignon Blancs and Chardonnays, it was interesting to sample these over the course of the evening. My preferred choices were from Frateli, Four Seasons and Big Banyan. Palates differ hence one must form one’s own opinions after sampling. You don’t have to get too technical about sampling. Keep it simple and enjoy the experience.

The Cheese selection is interesting. It is usually a struggle to find anything but processed cheese in your grocery aisles and some flavored cheeses are really not true to style. Surprisingly, there was some great aged Cheddar and Gouda at the fest. Ask about wine and cheese parings and please sample as much as you can.

Watch out for the quiz. The questions are easy and if you’re quick to answer, you get to win a nice goody bag from Go cheese. Winning is always fun.

The band did an exceptional job singing classics, the blues and easy folk music that you can dance to. Good wine, cheese, great company and great music make for a great evening.

One can hope that there will be more of these events here in Bangalore. Not everyone is able to travel to Nasik for wine festivals for example. It’s great to have an event close to home that is affordable and fun.
